CULTURE IN ARMED CONFLICT

Parijs tentoonstelling .jpeg

The protection of cultural heritage in times of armed conflict or crisis is essential, not only for the memory of humankind but also as a symbol for the hope and progress of civilizations

and societies across the world. Together with national and international partners, the Dutch National Commission for Unesco wishes to show this importance with a travelling photo- exhibition and emphasize the value of culture in our progress for peace.

This exhibition, based on the original idea of the exhibition ‘Culture Under Attack’ of 2014, travelled to relevant locations and events to raise awareness and to advance discussions on joining the international legal instruments protecting the heritage during armed conflict.

The 2019 exhibition Culture in Armed Conflict consists out of 24 iconic photographs, accompanied by short pieces of text, that tell the tale of the deliberate destruction in times of war, to the protection and reconstructions of cultural heritage that can contribute to the recovery and resilience of society.
